About Periyapunamangai
Arulmigu Sri Periyapunamangai Alias Sri Balathiripurasundari Amman temple is situated in the Vaigai river bank of Kodimangalam in Madurai District. Our ancestors were worshipping our Goddess from 11th century. She is 7 to 12 year old vaalai(small child) and she is guarded by Sri Santhana Karuppasami , Sri Sonai Muthiah and other Guardians.
For the past 60 years, we were not able to continue our worship. We were gifted to get back her blessings again from 2011 and thereafter twice a year we continued our pooja whole heartedly. We initially planned to construct temple using concrete, but our child goddess wished that the temple should be a privilege explaining our culture. As our Goddess blessing ,we are raising temple with Stones(Karkovil thirupani) from 2018.
Power Of the God
Child is equivalent to God(Kulanthiyum Theivamum Ondru)… Here Our goddess SriPeriyaPunamangai is itself a child.
We always love and like children. We admire children for their innocence, pureness, questioning capability and playfulness. Our cute child goddess PeriyaPunamangai qualities as a child cannot be explained in words. Once you visit our goddess you can feel the calmness in your mind.

- One of our ancestors shared an interesting and surprising information about PeriyaPunamangai. We like to share with you and here it goes.
- Fifty years ago, During Aadi 18(special day for worshipping Amman in TamilNadu) our family woman members will fast and do poojas. During Pooja time, the place will be filled with fragrance of jasmine flowers and devotional chanting. Our PeriyaPunamangai will pour her blessings over a particular person and that person will get the cinder (Kangu) in her saree pallu. The devotee will say the blessed words (ArulVaaghu) and clarify the doubts raised by the people. We believe that Goddess is coming on the person and showering her blessings. What will happen to the person who is getting the cinder?
- Here comes the surprising moment…. Yes In the saree which they got cinder, there will be no evidence of getting Cinder. It doesn’t had even a tiny hole because of the Cinder. Still it is a miracle happening beyond our knowledge.
- Again, coming back to our point, Children are always beyond our expectations…Undoubtedly our Goddess PeriyaPunamangai power is immense.
